We encourage you to attend school on a daily basis and to engage in as much of the school day as possible (including half/partial days), even in the presence of symptoms. This can be understandably difficult so accommodations may be helpful to manage symptoms in school. You can ask your medical provider if you qualify for a 504 accommodation letter for your diagnosis. Some school accommodations that our patient’s find helpful are, having an anytime bathroom pass, ability to take a 5-30 minute break in the nurse’s office to lay down or walk around, and utilizing a TENS unit and/or a heating pad while in class.
Our health guides are developed through a systematic, rigorous process to ensure accuracy, reliability, and trustworthiness. Written and reviewed by experienced healthcare clinicians from Boston Children's Hospital, a Harvard Medical School teaching hospital and consistently ranked as a top hospital by Newsweek and U.S. News & World Report, these guides combine clinical expertise, specialized knowledge, and evidence-based medicine. We also incorporate research and best practices from authoritative sources such as the CDC, NIH, PubMed, top medical journals, and UpToDate.com. Clinical specialists and subject matter experts review and edit each guide, reinforcing our commitment to high-quality, factual, scientifically accurate health information for young people.
