Not everyone who has sex for the first time will bleed. For those who do experience bleeding after their first sexual experience, it is usually spotting but not heavy bleeding. Spotting or light bleeding can be caused when the hymen stretches for the first time. It’s possible to have more bleeding than usual if you have extra hymenal tissue. If you don’t think the bleeding is your period, it’s a good idea to talk to your health care provider.
