Thank you for your question. Stretch marks aka “tiger stripes” are a beautiful part of growing into an adult, it’s a normal party of puberty for most teens. That’s right stretch marks don’t just happen to girls, guys can get them too! It’s totally normal to see stretch marks form on different parts of your body such as your hips, butt, breasts, and stomach. In women especially, 80% experience stretch marks on their hips!
Stretch mark appears due to rapid stretching and growth of your skin, such as with sudden weight gain or during puberty or pregnancy. Our skin super stretchy, but sometimes it reaches a limit and the collagen (the protein that makes up your skin) becomes overloaded and begins to break down, resulting in a stretch mark. Initially a stretch mark appears as a reddish-purplish shiny thin line. Overtime the thin line begins to lighten making it almost invisible. If you are unhappy with the appearance of your stretch marks, speak to your health care provider (HCP) or a dermatologist.
