I want to stop my periods, completely because the pain is so intense, and while not as bad as some, it’s still rather unbearable for me, as I’m bed-ridden and sometimes I can’t attend school because of this. At this point I would have my uterus and ovaries out if that would stop my pain. I plan on talking to my health provider about this as well, but I would like some advice first.

Having painful periods (dysmenorrhea) and perhaps pelvic pain at other times during the month can be frustrating to deal with, especially if it is interfering with your ability to attend school and participate in social activities. While there are ways to stop your period and treat your pain (without having surgery) such as taking continuous hormonal pills, it’s important to find out the cause of your pain.

It’s great that you plan on talking to your health care provider (HCP). In the meantime, you may wish to use our Period Tracker  to monitor your symptoms. Bring it with you when you see your HCP as this will help with the evaluation process. Be sure to tell your HCP if your mom or any other females in your family have painful periods and/or endometriosis. Having to cope with painful periods can wear you down for sure. Please know that there are treatments that can help without having surgery to remove your uterus and ovaries which permanently effects your fertility and is not recommended for teenagers or young adults.
