Could I get an infection from masturbating?

Upset young woman asking what's the problem? It’s unlikely that you would get a vaginal infection from masturbating. It is possible to have “irritation” of your vagina if you have an allergic reaction to something that is placed in your vagina such as a lubricant or sex toy. Sexually transmitted infections (STI’s) are only spread from an infected person to another person during unprotected sexual contact or sharing sex toys.  It’s important to wash your hands (and sex toys- if you use them) before masturbating.
