If you shave your pubic hair, it’s entirely possible that the bumps that look like pimples could be caused from ingrown hairs. If this is the case, it’s best not to shave for a while. If you do decide to shave again, be sure to use a new (not dull) razor blade, shaving gel or cream, and shave in the direction that your pubic hair grows. You should make an appointment with your health care provider if the “pimples” appear irritated, red, warm, and/or sore since this could be a sign of infection and you will need medical attention. But not every raised bump or pimple is caused from shaving. Some red bumps can be caused from a sexually transmitted infection (STI) such as herpes or HPV (human papilloma virus). If you are sexually active and have vaginal pimples or raised bumps near your vagina, the best thing to do is to make an appointment with a medical provider and get checked.
